Title: Data Repair Also known as: DataRepair
Type: Spyware
Severity scale:  (72 / 100)

Data Repair is rogue system optimization and repair program that reports non-existent hard drive errors and system problems. It’s from the same family as Data Recovery and Master Utilities. The rogue program is distributed via trojans and infected websites. Usually, scammers use exploit kits to infect computers. And you don’t need to click anything; simply visiting infected website is enought. Although, it has Microsoft logo and overall graphical user interface looks rather professional, Data Repair has nothing to do with Microsoft. It’s not genuine software. Once installed, this fake program performs fake system scans and claims that your computer has numerous critical hard drive and RAM errors. It pushes you to register the program to fix those problems and prevent data loss. As any other scareware, Data Repair displays system errors and notifications to make you think that your computer is going to crash. However, that’s not all, this rogue program takes it to entirely next level by hiding your icons and moving files to different locations. Fake security alerts may state the following:

Hard Drive Failure
The system has detected a problem with one or more installed IDE / SATA hard disks. It is recommended that you restart the system.

Fix Disk
Data Recovery Diagnostics will scan the system to identify performance problems.
Start or Cancel

Data Recovery Diagnostics
Windows detected a hard disk error.
A problem with the hard drive sectors has been detected. It is recommended to download the following sertified software to fix the detected hard drive problems. Do you want to download recommended software?

The same fake system warnings about critical hard drive errors are being displayed by all rogue applications from the fake HDD repair family. They are kind of all the same. It’s very easy to tell if the system errors are fake or genuine once you’ve seen the fake one. Another problem is that Data Repair drops a rootkit on the compromised computer and this makes the situation a lot worse. You probably won’t be able to remove it manually, that’s why we recommend using our removal tool given below. Data Repair can be removed manually or using Spyware Doctor. Also, you can use this activation code 1203978628012489708290478989147 to register the program, this will allow you to use anti-spwyare software without any restrictions and restore hidden icons or files. Most importantly, do not buy this fake application. Data Repair is nothing more but a scam. If you already did, contact your credit card company and dispute the charges. If your computer is infected, use Spyware Doctor to remove Data Repair virus.
